Frequently asked questions

Is Doctors On Site covered by OHIP?

Yes. Virtual appointments with Doctors On Site are covered by OHIP for eligible Ontario patients with a valid health card. There is no appointment fee for covered visits.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

No referral is needed for most Doctors On Site programs, including general practice and the specialist programs. You can book directly online. Physicians can also refer patients through the secure referral form.

How quickly can I see a doctor?

Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available for general practice. Specialist programs such as weight management, diabetes and dermatology are typically available within a week.

Do I need a family doctor to use Doctors On Site?

No. You can book with Doctors On Site whether or not you have a family physician. If you do have one, we support that relationship rather than replace it, and can share visit information back with your consent.

What can a virtual appointment actually handle?

Virtual appointments work well for prescription renewals, reviewing test results, follow-up after a diagnosis, chronic disease management, mental health assessment, many skin concerns, and sick notes or requisitions. Anything needing a physical examination, a procedure or same-visit testing needs to be seen in person, and the physician will arrange that.

Can Doctors On Site physicians prescribe medication?

Yes. Doctors On Site physicians are licensed in Ontario and can prescribe where clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are sent directly to the pharmacy you choose.

What do I need to have ready for my appointment?

Your Ontario health card, a list of your current medications including anything over the counter, and any recent test results or home readings such as blood pressure or blood sugar. Writing your questions down beforehand helps, because appointments compress.

Which specialist programs does Doctors On Site offer?

Doctors On Site offers general virtual care alongside specialist programs including weight management, diabetes management, cardiovascular and heart health, women's health, men's health, dermatology and nephrology.

Where does Doctors On Site operate?

Doctors On Site serves patients across Ontario virtually, and has in-person availability at the Vaughan clinic and through partner pharmacy and retail locations across the province.

What should I do in an emergency?

Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. Doctors On Site is not an emergency service and virtual appointments are not appropriate for chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, signs of stroke, or any situation needing immediate care.
