What is progesterone?

Progesterone is a hormone that plays several roles in women's health. In menopausal hormone therapy it is commonly prescribed together with estrogen to protect the lining of the uterus. It is available by prescription in different forms, and a licensed physician determines the appropriate type and dose based on your needs.

Who commonly uses progesterone?

Doctors On Site physicians commonly assess patients seen through our programs, including:

Patients on estrogen therapy who need endometrial protection Menopausal or perimenopausal symptom management Certain menstrual or hormonal concerns Patients seeking physician-supervised hormone care

How does progesterone work?

In menopausal hormone therapy, progesterone (a progestogen) helps protect the lining of the uterus when estrogen is also being used. It is individualized to your situation and combined with estrogen where appropriate. A physician assesses your history, discusses benefits and risks, and monitors your therapy.

Who may qualify?

  • Adults experiencing menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms, or on estrogen therapy
  • Patients willing to complete a clinical assessment with a licensed physician
  • Those without contraindications identified during the assessment
  • Patients who can commit to appropriate follow-up and monitoring
